Confab: CAN accuses Kutigi of favouring Muslims

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed reservations on the composition of the members of the National Conference Committee on Religion and has stated that the chairman of the conferenec, Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, has done his wish to ensure that the leadership of the committees favours Muslims in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by its Director, National Issues, Dr Sunny Oibe, CAN said that: “He is from Niger State and the Committee on Religion should be a sensitive committee. The chairman has decided to scatter the Christians in the confab and now brought Nurudeen Lemu, the son of Sheikh Lemu, who is also from Niger State, to chair the committee and did not pick any delegate representing the Christian Association of
Nigeria.
The statement further read: “The supposed Christian in the committee, Dr Jonathan Obaje, representing the Diaspora in the confab, has been given express permission by Kutigi to travel back overseas for holiday; he is not even in Nigeria at present and does not represent CAN. The delegate is not around and Christians will be affected during voting. Bishop Felix Ajakaiye, who was named co-chairman of the committee, is representing Ekiti State and not CAN. In that case, we have already lost and the ratio will now be 12 members for Muslims and six for Christians.”
CAN also alleged that Justice Kutigi was working out a script to undermine the interest of Christians in the confab, saying ordinarily, Christians who had been on the receiving end from the members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect in the North should produce the co-chairman in the Committee on Religion.
“But what Kutigi did was to pick a Muslim from the North as chairman and a Christian from the South West (Ajakaiye), who has little or no knowledge of what is happening in the North as co-chairman. The interest of Christians in this case, will not be adequately protected. Already, the confab is a stage-managed conference. President Goodluck Jonathan has a good intention; but there is a problem in allowing Kutigi to be the chairman.
“Justice Kutigi is from Niger State and he decided to pick his Muslim brother from Niger State to head such a sensitive committee. So, Christians in Nigeria are not happy and we don’t expect that a man who is highly placed like Justice Kutigi would allow his religion to override national interest.
That is why he decided to keep the issue of religion and the committee to himself closely. So, we are asking the Vice Chairman of that conference, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, what he is doing there? It may also interest Nigerians to note that none of the delegates sent by CAN were allowed to head any committee in the confab; this is unfortunate. Where is the transparency? Where is the equity and fairness?
“For us, we have no problem with Ajakaiye, but we see his choice as a mischief by Kutigi. Ajakaiye is a Christian from the South West but to us, a Christian from the North and CAN delegate who knows how Christians are being slaughtered on daily basis by Boko Haram should be the co-chairman of the committee. But Kutigi refused because he is carrying out an Islamic agenda. These are the same people who claimed that Jonathan skewed the conference to favour Christians. But the truth has now been revealed that Kutigi is the person who skewed the committee to undermine Christians,” the statement said.
Ace DJ, Jimmy Jatt, said: “You are brothers. You have no choice. You just have to stay together.
“It is normal for siblings to have issues, but please do not let it tear you apart. I believe in you, I have great faith you will remain together.”
Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, who is a close friend of the twins, likened the impending break-up to death and implored their wives to do something to salvage the situation
She said: “When you break up, your whole identity is shattered. It is like death. The love of twins is undisputed, Paul and Peter. You have been together for years, making great songs like Senorita, Do me, Story, More than a friend, Omoge mi, Busy body, Alingo, Personally, Testimony; the list is endless! Why break it up now?
“Please learn. Two heads are better than one. Mrs Lola and Anita, they say a woman makes a home. This is the time to show the world that both of you are women with great substance, which I believe you are,” she appealed in a post on Instagram.
For days now the rumour mill has been ablaze with news that the singing duo have gone their separate ways over issues many have come to tag ‘irreconcilable differences’.
Since news of the crisis broke, fans have taken to every known social media page to beg the twins to stay together.

Jude Okoye
The rumour was given wings by their brother and manager, Jude Okoye, following his tweets: “After 10 years it’s over. Am done.” It sent shock waves through the entertainment world, with their fans fearing the worst.
But according to findings, it seems their worst fears might have been realised as Vanguard can authoritatively reveal that the alleged rumour of break-up is no more rumour. The two brothers are actually at daggers drawn, and look set to have nothing to do with each other again.
Though their publicist, Bayo Adetu, has come out to debunk the break-up rumour, saying “I am too busy to pay attention to some wannabe blogger traffic because I don’t know where that report is coming from.
“Maybe they just want to get traffic to their site. It’s baseless and untrue.”
But according to a reliable source, who begged for anonymity, “Bayo was only doing his job and did the first thing any normal publicist would do to protect his job and his employers.
“The truth of the matter is that the brothers have been going at each other for months, with Jude caught in the middle, trying to see if he could settle them.”

Insider scoop
The source further revealed that Peter is bitter, partly because unhealthy innuendos have been hurled at him as the passive member of the group.
The source said: “The way things are, we may find Jude and Paul staying together, while Peter walks away.
“All the moves to reconcile them right now is targeted at changing Peter’s mind, who looks all resolved to end all relationship with his brother.
“On whether or not they have shared everything they own, I cannot really say because they are not even on talking terms. Everything that has to do with the brand name. P Square has been put on hold.”

Issues
It would be recalled that some of the reasons Peter wants out is that he claims his brothers do not respect his wife and that their brother, Jude, has been disrespecting Lola for years.
This, according to reports, prompted his packing out of Squareville mansion in Omole where he lived with his brothers for years to Lekki Phase 1 with his wife Lola Omotayo and their children.
